A black and white portrait of in the style of
Sixteen portraits per frame. None of them are real people.
Being able to distinguish what is real from what is unreal is a core capability of the human brain. Something our brain is executing multiple times every minute to drive us safely through our daily life. Both science and art have experimented with that limit many times.
Today we may have a different challenge ahead of us: technology is making that limit very blurred, and we may need to retrain our brain for it. The artist is giving you a taste of what may become more and more common in the near future. It may be more confusing than now. Scan through these portraits and sense how you feel at the end of the journey.
This is a series of 16 (4×4) black and white photographs portraying people in different moments of their lives. They all have one thing in common: they are not real people. All of them have been generated by artificial intelligence.
Each set of 16 has been created using an OpenAI algorithm that converts text to image. The sentence (prompt) being used is "A black and white portrait of x in the style of y" (created in September 2022).
- 4 photographers from various periods and styles.
- 10 black icons from various fields and ages.
- Each set of 16 portraits is created by AI from the same "person".
- Each row of 4 photographs is created by AI in the same style of a photographer.
